Protofabrication
In this course, students collaborated in teams of three to four to complete four distinct assignments, each exploring advanced digital modeling and fabrication methods. The projects integrated tools and technologies such as Grasshopper, Rhino, Revit, CNC milling, laser cutting, KUKA robots, and 3D printing, emphasizing innovation in design and precision in execution.

  • Hot Wire Project: Designed a custom robotic path for a KUKA arm equipped with a heated wire to cut through foam blocks, resulting in unique sculptural forms.
  • Light Bright Project: Utilized a KUKA robot with a light attachment and long-exposure photography to generate dynamic images with three-dimensional depth.
  • Bending Box Project: Fabricated a joinery-based wooden box using CNC milling techniques, featuring flexible walls, a foam-milled top, and an integrated central light element.
  • Form Wall Project: Developed a Grasshopper-driven 3D-printed mold system to cast plaster wall panels. Multiple iterations refined both mold release methods and the final form quality.

This course provided extensive hands-on experience with computational design and robotic fabrication, highlighting the possibilities of merging digital workflows with material experimentation to produce innovative architectural outcomes
